Homes listed for sale after staging sold within 32 to 42 days. In either case the homes sold for an average of $26,000 more than expected."

Last year, MONEY Magazine ranked the best places to live in American and included big-city neighborhoods for the first time. Chicago’s Lakeview earned a top spot as one of the best neighborhoods in a major city. It was the only Chicago neighborhood to make the list.

MONEY noted the median household income of nearly $80,000 and median home values of almost $350,000 as reasons for its ranking. Many residents say what they like best about Lakeview include the Belmont Theater District as well as easy access to Lake Michigan, area golf courses, parks, Wrigley Field or the Boystown district which is Chicago’s largest gay and lesbian community. The high-priced rental market and Wrigleyville on game days were the area’s major cons.

Conde Nast recently released their annual Top 10 Cities in the United States and Chicago was number 5 on this year’s list. The Readers’ Choice rating scored Chicago a 79.2 on a 100-point scale. Readers gave their top ranking in Chicago to restaurants with a score of 85.0 while friendliness scored the lowest at 68.0.

Overall, the “terrific architecture” and “great ethnic food” help make Chicago a must-visit city (even though it dropped a couple spots from last year’s list, where it owned the No. 3 slot). The restaurants, skyscrapers, museums, and waterfront all add up to a “perfect city for solo, friend, family, or romantic getaways.”

This year’s Top 10 are listed below from 1-10 …

  • Charleston, SC
  • Santa Fe, NM
  • San Francisco, CA

Former Chicago Cub Carlos Zambrano recently sold his six bedroom, five ½ bath home in the Chicago Lakeview neighborhood for $2,155,000. The home was listed in 2012, the same year the ex Cub pitcher was traded to the Miami Marlins.

Lakeview is one of the city’s most livable and walkable areas and is home to many smaller communities branching west from Lake Shore Drive, bordered on the north by Addison Avenue and Diversey Avenue to the south. Because Lakeview is found on Lake Michigan’s shoreline, it is one of the most popular neighborhoods in the city and attracts a predominantly mid-20′s to early-30′s crowd, both for its mix of housing and for its endless variety of stores, restaurants and nightlife.
