It’s a given you’re going to eat some turkey, and probably some pie, watch a little football and hear some classic family stories… but there is so much else to do in Chicago over the Thanksgiving Weekend. Here are a few of our picks for fun ways to mix things up:

Turkey Day 5K in Lincoln Park
Thursday, November 27, 9 am
Donated food will is collected at packet pickup and on race day to support Greater Chicago Food Depository. Go event further and make a cash donation when you register online. Enjoy hot apple cider post race!

Looking for something a little more relaxed? Head out for a walk through the woods on one of the many trails that are part of the Cook County Forest Preserve. Maps are available on their website.

McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade

State Street from Congress to Randolph
Thursday, November 27, 2014 – 8 am
Enjoy music and entertainment from a diverse assemblage of groups from across the city (and beyond). This year, members of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team will be featured!

Wreathing of the Lions

Art Institute of Chicago
Friday, November 28, 10am - 3 pm
Stop by to see a classic Chicago tradition 23 years in the making – the "wreathing" of the two lions outside of the Michigan Avenue entrance. Enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and live music.

Lincoln Park Zoo

Starts Friday, November 28

Discover thousands of yards of holiday light strung throughout the zoo, winter snacks and free crafts are available. The forecast for Saturday calls for temps in the mid-40's, so now is a great time to go.

Sound of Music Sing-a-long

Music Box Theatre

Friday, Nov. 28- Sunday, Nov. 30  |  Multiple Showings

Give thanks for some of your “favorite things” with on-screen lyrics, fun packs for the family and a costume contest. A fun, family-friendly tradition!
