How To Choose A Chicago Real Estate Agent

If you’re anything like me, you check out online reviews and ratings when you want to get the inside scoop on an auto mechanic, plumber, hotel or restaurant. And when I’m happy or very unhappy about their product or service I contribute to those sites as well. So my question to you is why wouldn’t you do the same things when you’re shopping for a real estate agent?

Most of my business continue to come from referrals which is great but many others still select a real estate agent based on old and mostly unreliable methods:

  • A family friend or relative
  • Any agent for a large brokerage
  • Someone who claims to have good stats (short market times, high closing ratio, etc.)
  • Someone with visibility in the area
  • Someone perceived to know the area

But what if you could tap into the entire knowledge of the universe about a particular real estate agent? Wouldn’t you want to know that several different people think that the “top producer” listed above were perhaps “a bitter, jaded old lady who has lost the desire to work hard”?

That’s where online review websites can come in handy. Some of these sites are general sites for reviewing a variety of service providers while others are dedicated specifically to real estate:

  • Yelp
  • Angie’s List
  • Zillow
  • Better Business Bureau
  • Trulia

With so many sites, it’s easy for reviews to get scattered around. Angie’s List is a subscription-based service where you can see if a reviewer has provided reviews on other service providers which indicate that they didn’t just create a fake ID to post a single review. With Yelp, a free service, it takes some work but you can filter the reviews to avoid the plethora of fake reviews.

I think reviews should be a part of the process you should follow when selecting a real estate agent for your next home purchase or sale.

And if you’d like to learn more about me and why you should select me as your real estate agent, click here to visit my new website. While I am one of Chicago’s top real estate agents, I think you’ll find that I’ll do what it takes to put you into your new home in Chicago.
